30 Day Idol Challenge- Day 2

Part two of the daily challenge that I started last post!

Day 2: The Idol you hate or dislike

Oh man, this is kind of tough. Like I've said, I've mainly  moved from the H!P fandom to the AKB fandom, and part of the reason I did that was because I love EVERYONE in AKB. Not even kidding. For this question I was thinking of putting Akimoto Sayaka, but then thought better of it. Thought about putting Itano Tomomi up there, but then realized I like her a lot. XD So, even though this girl is from a group I pay VERY LITTLE attention to, the answer is...

Tsugunaga Momoko.

Now, putting this is kind of hard for me, because Momo was actually my first favorite idol. I loved her back in 2008, when I first got into Berryz Koubou and idol fandom. However, lately she's just been rubbing me the wrong way. I love cute idols, but Momoko really strikes me as just trying too hard. There's a difference between trying to be cute but not taking it that seriously and finding humor in that (which is really part of why I'm a fan of both Ishikawa Rika and Sasaki Ayaka of Momoiro Clover) and just trying too hard but never finding humor. Momoko really strikes me as a bit of an attention whore and I don't really find her schtick all that cute.

  1. You know, you really have no right to criticize Momoko about trying to be cute, especially since your favorite member is Ishikawa Rika (...Seriously...WTF man...).. >___>

    And also:

"Momoko really strikes me as a bit of an attention whore"

ALL idols are attention whores really (They're supposed to try to grab their audiences attention).... Rika Ishikawa was the biggest attention whore of H!P back in her day. >:P

I wonder what you think of Sayumi Michishige? Do you think she's not funny, tries too hard to be cute, & is an attention whore too?

  2. @Anon: Well aren't you judgey McJudge?

The reason that Momoko gets a bit on my nerves is that it all feels too serious. Like she's looking for attention seriously. Rika always did it as a joke; she'd say something attention-whorish, then someone (usually Yossy or Miki) would come in and say something to knock her down a few pegs. It was also never and will never be her entire personality; while in MM, Rika was extremely reliable and focused a lot on taking are of her juniors.

Also, her Charmy persona was never supposed to be actually Rika herself. It's a character she created to deal with her low self esteem.

Sayu tries too hard to be cute, but she always seems to be doing it to be funny; it's more like a running joke, going "I'm the cutest." It's a bit annoying, but again, it's a bit of a joke.

Momoko's schtick never bothered me until I started watching Fankora and I saw the Aisu Kuriimu to My Purin performance. They have the girls on the sidelines to cheer along and have fun, but when no one else was doing so she stood up and started doing the dance to the song. This moment was what set me off, because it really seemed like an inappropriate time to do this. This was when Zoku v-u-den was supposed to shine, and Momoko just essentially went "don't look at them, look at ME!!!" which honestly really pissed me off.

Rika and Sayumi have had stage personas where they try to look for attention, yes. However, they really knew when they shouldn't do that. They didn't burst in on someone else's performance and go "nah, you should look at me instead." That's where the difference lies.

Starting to dislike an idol based off of ONE performance is well....kind of....let's just say not too smart (I want to say stupid, but I figured that, if I said that, I'd come off as rude & very judgmental, so let's just go with not too smart! :D). Almost everyone else found Momo's dancing during that performance entertaining, but *sighs* you just HAVE TO take it personally, don't you (No sense of humor? Come on now, it was meant to be funny, sweetie :P)?
(If the staff thought what Momoko was doing was inappropriate, they wouldn't have had the camera focused on her doing that part in the first place anyways).

And I do believe that Momoko may actually want some attention (Certain things she says sometimes convinces me), but you know what? What is wrong with her seriously wanting some attention, huh? EVERYONE wants attention (It's only natural), and in an industry that values appearance over talent, and pretty much only gives special privileges and/or advancements to those that actually stick out, I'd say it's pretty understandable why she may want some attention. :)

(These stick out members by the way, are usually the most popular & have a lot of fans due to how much attention they get.. just in case you didn't know :P)

"Also, her Charmy persona was never supposed to be actually Rika herself. It's a character she created to deal with her low self esteem."

Oh, I guess Momo & Rika have something in common then, huh? *sarcasm*
Momo's cutesy persona is not her real self either. Outside of H!P she is quite boyish (How do I know this? Well, its because the members have said this themselves), and apparently Momoko has the mind of an adult, which probably means she's pretty mature (Captain aka Saki Shimizu is the one who said this about Momoko btw).

  4. Oh, and I don't hate Ishikawa Rika or anything (I actually very much like her), I just lashed out at her because I noticed a lot of similarities between her & Momoko, and I thought that it was weird that you were saying this and that about Momo's persona, but not criticizing Rika's (since her onscreen persona is pretty similar to Momoko's).

  5. It's not so much that I started to dislike her because of that performance, but it was that performance that kind of flipped the switch and made me go "You know? If I had to dislike any idol, it'd be Momoko."

"Almost everyone else found Momo's dancing during that performance entertaining, but *sighs* you just HAVE TO take it personally, don't you (No sense of humor? Come on now, it was meant to be funny, sweetie :P)?" Honestly, this is really quite condescending. But anyways, I'm not taking it personally, and I get that other people found it funny. I just thought that part was really rude, in my opinion.

"Oh, I guess Momo & Rika have something in common then, huh? *sarcasm*
Momo's cutesy persona is not her real self either. "

No, I meant that Charmy is a character. It's literally not supposed to be Rika. In her Charmy character, she literally starts talking about Rika as someone else. It's not a matter of on-stage persona; it's a separate character created for Hello!Morning. Momoko's stage persona is not supposed to be 100% separate from herself.

I honestly don't want to say anything about people who like Momoko; I have a friend who adores her, and that's fine. It's just my opinion that if I had to pick one idol I disliked (which I did, for this challenge) that I would have to pick Momoko.

  6. I'm sorry if I seem a bit abrasive, but really, I have as much right to dislike Momoko as you have to like her, and there's nothing hypocritical about it. They may have a couple of similar features, but they're most certainly not the same person, not at all.

*sighs* I hate to admit it, but you're totally right, you do have as much right to dislike Momoko as I like her, please excuse my rudeness, I'm a very big fan of Momoko (I've been a Momo fan for 4 years now), and I just CAN'T STAND seeing anyone bash her, or say negative things about her, it really hurts me (and pisses me off).

Umm, I think I probably won't come back to this blog (You're happy, right?), so yeah, uhh, bye???...
